Save The Date! Jr. FLL Expo will be held April 3, 2016 at Randolph College
The 2016 Jr. FIRST LEGO League Expo is scheduled for April 3rd at Randolph College (Smith Hall). The theme for the 2016 Expo will be “Waste Wise”. This year’s expo will be held in conjunction with Randolph College’s Sci-Fest.
What Your Need To Know
Junior FIRST LEGO League (Jr.FLL) captures young children’s inherent curiosity and directs it toward discovering the wonders of science and technology. Jr.FLL features a real world challenge solved by research, critical thinking and imagination. Guided by adult coaches, student teams work with LEGO elements and moving parts to build ideas and concepts and present them for review.
Here are some of the details for Junior FIRST:
- The teams are composed of 2-6 children ages 6-9
- Teams typically meet 6-8 times
- The season culminates with the Lynchburg Regional Junior FIRST LEGO Expo (non-competitive sharing and fun!). The season will begin in February with the event being held April 3, 2016. Note: un-sponsored teams are welcome to participate in the Expo. We will be glad to send ordering information for the supplies.
- Jr. FIRST teams will do basic research and build a solution to a challenge based on the theme “Waste Wise”.
FIRST LEGO League Jr. teams are about to learn that throwing something in the trash is only the beginning. In the 2015-2016 WASTE WISESM Challenge, over 34,500 children ages 6 to 9 from 18 countries will look at trash in a whole new way. From reducing, to reusing, to recycling, and beyond, find out what making trash really means. Prepare to become Waste Wise!
Each year, FIRST LEGO League Jr. presents a new and exciting Challenge to ignite the creativity of young children. While exploring the real-world theme, teams will learn about simple machines as they build a model made of LEGO® elements with a motorized part. They will also learn to present information through a Show Me Poster. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under a signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.
2015-2016 WASTE WISESM Challenge is available to registered teams through the FIRST LEGO League Jr. Showcase.
