What started as a small local machine shop in Madison Heights 27 years ago, now is the premiere CNC machining facility in the Central Virginia. S&S Machine Inc. is a highly successful manufacturing business in the region. And one of their own products, a specialized archery sight, is being used in the 2012 Olympics by several teams – including the U.S. archery team. Check out the story by WorkItLynchburg:
“On Thursday, U.S. Olympian archer Khatuna Lorig just missed getting a medal in the women’s individual archery competition. Her fourth-place effort nonetheless represented a bull’s-eye for a family-owned Madison Heights business that made the sight on her bow. Lorig is just one of seven TeamUSA archers who have used the Axcel AX4500 sight made at S & S Machine Inc., located just off Virginia 130.
“It was awesome just being able to see people using your product,” said Ben Summers, director of operations at S & S Machine Inc.
The sight appears on bows not only for TeamUSA, but for the Italian and South Korean teams as well. All of those teams won medals in the men’s team archery competition Saturday. Brandon Reyes, director of marketing for the firm, said the light weight of its sight — less than 12 ounces — has made it alluring to teams across the globe.
“We ship our products worldwide,” Reyes said.
Along with archery equipment, S & S Machine Inc. produces metal parts for different industries and employs about 90 workers…”
